David Gordon Green will direct Freaks of the Heartland, based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles, writer of 30 Days of Night.
Green, who recently segued into directing studio based fare with Pineapple Express is perhaps best known for his off-beat indie films, such as Snow Angels.
Story follows the horrible secret of a rural middle-American town, Gristlewood Valley, as Trevor Owens fights to protect his 'monster' of a 6-year old brother and the rest of the town's 'freaks' from their parents' worst instincts.
