The last time he tackled the story of someone defending their home against an invader, David Fincher brought the world Panic Room. Now he might be aiming at something similar, and it’s even got “panic” in the title. Vulture reports that he’s optioned Jason Starr’s novel Panic Attack.
Published in 2009, Starr’s tome was a crossbreed of **Panic Room **and Straw Dogs, which found a New York therapist shooting and killing a home intruder. But the story doesn't stop there, as a media storm kicks up around the case and the criminal’s accomplice starts a vengeful crusade against the shrink.
Fincher has nabbed Ocean’s Eleven writer Ted Griffin to adapt the book but there’s no word yet on whether he will actually add it to his growing list of directorial possibilities or simply stay as a guiding, producing hand. Either way, he’ll handle the film through his new company, Panic Pictures. Anyone else see a pattern emerging here?
And talking of his directorial possibilities, he’s got plenty hanging around his office door, trying to attract his attention like cold Dickensian orphans, There’s the new take on Captain Nemo, TV dramas House of Cards and Mindhunter, and Cleopatra, which Angelina Jolie is bugging him about. Plus he may also decide to tackle The Girl Who Played With Fire once his work on Dragon Tattoo is done. Oh, and while we’re on the subject of the latter, two new posters have appeared online. Warning: potentially NSFW imagery right here…
