James Gunn is already bringing his filmmaking abilities over (temporarily, we now know) from the MCU to Warner Bros. and DC's universe, and he's recruited someone who, in superhero film terms has also been more known for supporting work at Marvel. Ant-Man movie veteran David Dastmalchian is playing Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad.
This new Squad round up is planned as both sequel and sort-of reboot for the characters, returning the likes of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis' Amanda Waller (the canny, cunning woman who puts the team together). Idris Elba is also aboard to play a new character, with Gunn writing the script and drawing from a swathe of other page-to-screen introductions.
Case in point? Polka-Dot Man, debuted in 1962's Detective Comics No. 300. Abner Krill was a low-level crook who tried to make a name for himself with spot-themed crimes and a costume that included some amazing gimmicks, such as spots that transformed into buzzsaws and flying saucers on command. Yes, he's not the most impressive villain, but you know that Gunn will have some fun with it.
Dastmalchian, who returned for Ant-Man And The Wasp, has snagged a role in regular collaborator Denis Villeneuve's Dune. As for Suicide Squad, that should be out in 2021.
