As he showed on The Sopranos, David Chase is a man who likes to blend new talent he finds with experienced older hands. It would seem that his next project, a rock ‘n’ roll-flavoured coming-of-age tale, will feature a similar mix, with him casting relative newcomers Will Brill, Jack Huston and John Margaro. And as for the voice of experience? Try Sopranos regular and Bruce Springsteen band member Steven Van Zandt.

The three actors have differing levels of experience: Brill has a couple of shorts to his name, Margaro has films such as The Brave One,** The Box** and** The Life Before Her Eyes** on his CV, and Huston (nephew of Danny and Anjelica) has had the longest career of the three, appearing most recently in Twilight: Eclipse.

Chase’s story (which was formerly titled The Twilight Zones after the band that the three play in) finds them strumming their way through a fledgling music career in the 1960s.

As for Van Zandt, he’ll be bringing his considerable musical talents to the film, serving as executive producer and music supervisor.

"I am thrilled to be working with Steven again, especially on this particular subject," Chase tells The Playlist. "It's not just that we both worship the same songs and bands from the era, it's that he obviously knows so much. About every aspect. He embodies a particular spirit of a particular kind of rock 'n' roll. He actually is that spirit."

The film is scheduled to start shooting this coming January in New York. After his years spent toiling in TV, we’re excited to see what he does with the big screen…
