For eight seasons David Boreanaz played Angel, the vampire with a soul, three on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and five on his own spin-off. Right from the end of Angel in 2004 he segued to Bones, portraying FBI special agent Seeley Booth. That show is about to come to an end after twelve seasons, and the actor, who obviously does not enjoy being idle, has signed on for the lead in a new Navy Seal pilot being developed for CBS in America.

Replacing Jim Caviezel, who departed the pilot over creative differences, Boreanaz has been cast as Jason, the leader of an elite assault team who, according to Deadline, "has been through over a dozen deployments, with scars inside and out." The potential series will follow a group of Navy SEALs through the planning and execution of the most dangerous missions imaginable. Chris Chulack directs from a script by Ben Cavell. The pilot will also star Max Theriot, Jessica Pare, A.J. Buckley, Toni Trucks, and Neil Brown, Jr.

Despite spending the majority of his on screen time during the past twenty years primarily playing two characters, Boreanaz remains fairly philosophical each time one of them has ended.

"In this business," he muses, "things happen so quickly that I've always focused on getting the first episode done, then the following episode and not be so concerned about storylines and where the character is heading. I really kind of keep that unpredictable for myself, because you never know what's going to happen. Walking around thinking it's never going to end or that you're invincible — that's one of the traps of Hollywood, so that you have to really be cautious and aware of who you are as a person. And you have to remain strong in that foundation, which is something that I got from my parents growing up. They gave me that and it's helped considerably to get through it all."
