Since breaking out big (and winning a Tony in the process) with his dual roles on Hamilton, Daveed Diggs has been a man in demand on screens both big and small. He's just landed his latest job, taking the lead in the new US TV series based on Bong Joon-ho's Snowpiercer.

The show, which has Josh Friedman acting as executive producer and show-runner, with Doctor Strange's Scott Derrickson producing and directing the pilot, will loosely adapt the film, maintaining the dystopian vision of a train that circles the globe after the world is turned into a snowy wasteland. The passengers are segregated along class lines, with the wealthy living in much more comfortable quarters.

Diggs is on to play Layton Well, a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats, Layton becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on the train. Given the frustrations UK folk have felt in trying to track down the movie, hopefully the show will make it over here – and perhaps provoke a proper, if delayed, cinema release for the original?

Elsewhere, Diggs will be seen in Wonder, due in UK cinemas on 8 December, and has a voice role in animated family film Ferdinand, landing on 22 December.
