When he's not busy campaigning on social media to join James Gunn for the former Guardians Of The Galaxy director's new job on DC's next Suicide Squad film, Dave Bautista is grabbing actual gigs. Assuming the "talks" stage works out, Bautista will be part of the cast for the Fantasy Island film.
Michael Peña is the man faced with the task of living up to a role made famous by Ricardo Montalban, playing Mister Roarke, host and overseer of the titular island and hotel where people come to live out their dreams. On the show, they usually ended up discovering that what they really wanted wasn't the fantasy, but the movie plans to push that further, to a darker place.
With the Blumhouse attached to produce for Sony, the project has Truth Or Dare director Jeff Wadlow aboard. He, in turn, has corralled that film's co-writers Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs to crank out a script that will see contest winners arriving at an island hotel to enjoy dream scenarios, only to realise that they'll actually experience nightmares. We're told the tone is a blend of Westworld and Cabin In The Woods. Hopefully, then, not as obtuse as the former and as enjoyable mad as the latter.
Crazy Rich Asians' Jimmy O. Yang is among them, while Bautista is in lone to play a former guest trapped on the island looking to expose Roarke's operation and his dark powers.
Next up for Bautista is the follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War (due on 26 April next year) and action comedy Stuber, which has a 24 May release date.
