Christopher Nolan’s Batman masterpiece The Dark Knight is 10 years old this year – a fact that’s going to make a whole lot of people feel extremely old. Well, here’s how you can cheer yourself up after spiraling into an existential despair: take the chance to see it not just back on the big screen, but on the biggest screen.
The film is returning to London’s BFI IMAX at the end of the month in a 70mm presentation, in a one-week run starting on Friday 24 August – and some of the dates are already on sale, so be sure to snap up tickets quickly. Nolan’s film was the first to shoot certain sequences in special IMAX cameras – a practice he continued in the likes of The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar and Dunkirk – so this is the ultimate way to watch it, short of excavating your own Batcave and rappelling down for a subterranean screening.
Of course, it goes without saying that The Dark Knight is an instant classic – and you can find out its official placing in the Batman movie pantheon in this month’s issue of Empire, where the Caped Crusader is the topic of The Ranking.
