If you've picked up the current issue of Empire – which features Spider-Man: Far From Home on the cover – you'll have seen our piece on the new The Dark Crystal prequel Age Of Resistance. We've got an exclusive image from the series to share, and you can find it above.
Set many years before the events of the 1982 film, famously co-directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, Age Of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.
The heroes are voiced by the likes of Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel plus Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong and Alicia Vikander. As for the villainous Skeksis and Mystics, they boast Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg among their ranks.
Louis Leterrier, more known for action movies, is directing here, with the Jim Henson Company producing and handling some of the most complicated puppetry ever put on screen. Which caused its own issues for the director. "Nine takes out of ten, it looks terrible. It's a nightmare," he tells Empire. "But that one take that goes right, it's life, it's pure."
The show will arrive on Netflix on 30 August, all 10 episodes dropping at once. For more, pick up that issue of Empire. You can order it online via this link{
