Since Vin Diesel's jam-packed schedule has seen him take a pass, Ben Affleck has now stepped up to the plate and will fight crime in his place as sightless superhero Daredevil. The latest title in the recent rush to bring comic book properties to the screen, Daredevil's star is Matthew Murdock a disillusioned lawyer who loses his sight but, due to an impromptu dose of radioactive isotope, develops a superhuman radar sense. Taking his newfound power and some impressive acrobatic skills, Murdock takes to the rooftops in red spandex - as one would, obviously - to fight the forces of evil, including his nemesis, the infamous crime lord, Kingpin. Directed by Grumpy Old Men helmer Mark Steven Johnson, Daredevil will doubtless be aiming to cache in on the immense hero-hype generated by Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Johnson has even taken on board Jim Atcheson, the man behind Tobey Maguire's Spider-wear, to realise Daredevil's horned costume for the screen. While not as mainstream as the wallcrawler, Daredevil is still one of Marvel's well-known characters and is extremely poplular popular with fans. However, with the comic-book genre being a wholly mixed bag, we can only hope that the square-jawed Pearl Harbor star will manage to turn the vigilante crimefighter into the next Spider-Man and not a reminder of 1989's dire take on The Punisher.
