We reportedback in September that Fox were "quietly developing" a new **Daredevil **film, if for no other reason than to keep the rights to Ol' Hornhead from reverting back to Marvel / Disney in the not-too-distant future. Now, Deadline Hollywood have revealed the project's scriptwriter. It's David Scarpa.

Scarpa has story and co-script credit on the 2001 Dreamworks prison drama The Last Castle, which starred Robert Redford and James Gandolfini, and he also wrote last year's Keanu remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. A lot may depend on which particular comics - if any - Scarpa chooses to adapt. We're suggesting Frank Miller's Born Again or Brian Michael Bendis' recent run would be solid foundations, although we'd hesitate to use a word like "foolproof", given what happened to Miller's Elektra saga last time.

Also revealed by DH are the production company, Regency, and the producer, former News Corp head honcho Peter Chernin, who also has Moses and Planet of the Apes prequel Caesar on the go.

This Marvel reboot business is possibly getting rather out of hand: Hulk, Punisher, The Fantastic Four, and now Spidey have all had or are getting new versions with the originals still in very recent memory. But the Mark Steven Johnson / Ben Affleck Daredevil, even in its much-improved director's cut form, always felt like a missed opportunity, so this one, at least, we're keeping our fingers crossed for.
