Paul Dano has signed on to co-star with Robert De Niro in Paul Weitz’ latest, Another Night in Suck City, according to The Wrap.
Weitz has adapted Nick Flynn’s memoir about dealing with his estranged father, an alcoholic living in the homeless shelter where Flynn himself worked in the 1980s. His dad was a conman who suffered frequent delusions and considered himself a poet.
The actually title of the book is Another Bulls**t Night in Suck City, but you can sort of see why they might have had to make that judicious little edit – we doubt most movie marquees would carry it otherwise. Weitz has been trying to get this one up and running for a little while now; he previously had a version set up at fox 2000 with Casey Affleck vaguely set to take the Flynn role.
Dano will play the son, with De Niro as his drink-happy pop in the film, which is planned as Weitz’ next project. Focus Features is producing the pic, and we’d imagine both Weitz and De Niro are looking to get back into something satisfying after the trauma that was Little Fockers.
