UPDATE (of sorts): Daily Grindhouse have spoken to director Craig Moss and are none the wiser for having done so. Maybe that April release date is the first of the month...

Here's one that passed us by over Christmas, brought to our attention, somewhat appropriately, by Devin Faraci's Badass Digest. You may have caught the Epic Beard Man bus fracas saga a couple of years ago. And now the greybeard loon has been immortalised by Danny Trejo in Bad Ass, a trailer for which is already up{ =nofollow}. Yup, this is one for all of you complaining about endless remakes and sequels and videogame adaptations: Bad Ass is based on an internet meme.

If you're new here, the source is a YouTube video documenting an argument on an Oakland, California bus between the 67-year-old Thomas Bruso (wearing a pale blue "I Am A Motherfucker" t-shirt) and a guy called Michael. It's unclear what starts the altercation, but Michael ends up bloody and Bruso ends up raving. It seems pretty clear that Bruso was provoked, but he subsequently, and not for the first time, underwent psychiatric evaluation.

In the hands of director Craig Moss (previously responsible for the DTV parody The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall And Felt Superbad About It), Bruso becomes Frank Vega, and the story becomes Death Wish, possibly via Hobo With A Shotgun. Ron Perlman, of course, is also in it, as is Charles S. Dutton. It's in such questionable taste and looks so awesomely ridiculous that many have speculated that it's a hoax. If so, it's a very thorough one, with a full page of production specs on the IMDb, and a convincing Facebook page (although there's no website; the web address redirects to FB).

Assuming it's real, we're told it's out in the US in April. In the UK, we're saying it's a shoo-in for Kim's Video Dungeon.
