The idea of Ice Cube producing and playing Fagin in a new version of 1968's Oliver! for Disney, no less, might seem like something dreamt up by a satirical site. But it is in fact, a very real proposition and now The Butler's Danny Strong is on board to write the script.

And, like the titular orphan asking for more, the do-over will work in some fresh material, while once again adapting Charles Dickens' classic tale about Oliver escaping the workhouse and falling in with a group of pickpockets who work for Fagin.

Given that the original film won five Oscars, including Best Picture, the new one has its work cut out for it. Luckily it has Tommy Kail, who won acclaim and a Tony for directing Hamilton on the stage, attached to direct.

Strong scored his own Academy Award for The Butler and also found success co-creating Empire for the small screen. He most recently turned his hand to directing with Rebel In The Rye.
