Despite the fact that he’s been busy this year so far with Frankenstein at the National Theatre, and the fact that he's going to be busy crafting the opening ceremonies to next year’s Olympic Games, Danny Boyle isn’t letting that slow down his prodigious output rate. He’s now setting up Trance to shoot in London later this year.
Deadline reports that details are fairly sketchy at this early stage (no idea who’s behind the script, for example), but that the thriller will focus on an art heist gone wrong and looks to return the Mancunian filmmaker to the dark, sexy tone of Shallow Grave.
But while it’ll hark back to his roots, it also marks another collaboration with Slumdog/127 Hours producer Christian Coulson. And the Games will have an impact – while Boyle’s launched talks with regular collaborators Fox Searchlight on funding and started letting executives know the sort of UK and UK acting talent he wants to recruit, work on the movie will be split. Though the production part is loosely planned for September, he’ll store the footage until he’s finished working on the Olympic celebrations, then go back in August 2012 and get to editing the thing, aiming for an early 2013 launch.
