With Apple announcing another successful quarter in its financial report today, there’s other good news related to the company: after months of development struggles and casting changes, the film about its former big boss Steve Jobs kicked off shooting today, with Danny Boyle at the helm and a cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet, Katherine Waterston, Jeff Daniels, Michael Stuhlbarg and Perla Haney-Jardine.
With a script by Aaron Sorkin based on Walter Isaacson’s biography of the man, the film – which is currently going by the title Steve Jobs – will focus on three big moments in Jobs’ corporate life: the launch of the Mac; NeXT (which was introduced after he was removed from the company); and the iPod, launched after his triumphant return.
Fassbender is Jobs, with Rogen locked in to play Steve Wozniak, his former partner and one of the co-founders of the company. Winslet is former Mac marketing boss Joanna Hoffman, Waterston is Jobs’ ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan, Daniels will be Apple executive John Sculley and Haney-Jardine is Jobs’ daughter.
In addition to the main cast, Deadline reports that Ripley Sobo, Makenzie Moss, Sarah Snook and Adam Shapiro are also aboard in unspecified roles. The film, which was once set for David Fincher and a rumoured Christian Bale over at Sony, went through a turbulent time before ending up in the hands of Danny Boyle and Sony Pictures. With the cameras now rolling at last, the film should now arrive in cinemas next year.
