Around this time of year with Christmas on the way, chances are you’re kicking off yet another rewatch of the Harry Potter movies – the next best thing in the ‘cosy winter’ stakes to warming up by the fire in the Gryffindor Common Room with a bubbling Butterbeer. If you could do the latter, you would – and so that’s exactly what Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint have been up to in the run-up to the festive season. The trio have reunited for the first time in a decade to talk all things Wizarding World in upcoming special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts – and you can see them starting to open up in this latest trailer.
Admit it: you got chills seeing Daniel Radcliffe step onto the Diagon Alley set again, didn’t you? Or when Emma Watson gave Tom Felton a big hug in the Great Hall? Or, er, when Helena Bonham Carter put in her fake Hermione teeth in the Gringotts Vault set? But there’s plenty of the old magic here, with so many familiar faces catching up – and in interesting combinations too. So, we get Bonham Carter chatting with Radcliffe, Grint getting emotional with Watson, Radcliffe sharing a moment with Gary Oldman. Plus, the thing we’re all waiting for: the so-called ‘golden trio’ all sharing memories together.
What we do see in this trailer, too, is that all four Potter directors have contributed to the special – that’s Chris Columbus (The Philosopher’s Stone and The Chamber Of Secrets), Alfonso Cuarón (The Prisoner Of Azkaban), Mike Newell (The Goblet Of Fire) and David Yates (The Order Of The Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows Part One and Part Two). It’ll be a New Year’s Day treat on Sky Max / NOW for UK viewers, and on HBO Max for US viewers – only 11 days to go now. For Potter-heads, it’s basically a second Christmas.
