When first we heard about Leonardo DiCaprio becoming attached to the adaptation of Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbo’s pseudonymously penned book series Blood On Snow, we pictured the title quickly settling on to the long list of films DiCaprio is developing. Warner Bros. is hoping to juice the process up, however, with Safe House director Daniel Espinosa entering talks to make the film.

Nesbo’s set of two pulp-throwback books, written under the name Tom Johansen, focus on a hit man tasked by his boss with killing the employer’s wife. But he goes and falls in love with the woman, which throws a right old spanner in the works and ends up with the couple going on the run. Publishing house Knopf will bring them to shelves this autumn and next spring in a staggered release.

The next step, assuming Espinosa makes a deal, will be to find a writer to bash out a script. If he likes what he sees, DiCaprio may then decide to star, but that’s still in the future. For now, Espinosa is finishing up work on Tom Hardy/Noomi Rapace Soviet serial killer thriller Child 44, which should be out this year.
