It's not as if he's idle during the Bond 23 hiatus. He's already attached to Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens, but the word on the street is that Daniel Craig may take on the lead role of Mikael Blomkvist in David Fincher's **The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Nothing's been signed yet, so treat this as speculation for now, but we're saying that Craig would be a great choice for the disgraced journalist and amateur sleuth Blomkvist. A return to his Enduring Love shabby chic would work well.
The character was already played by Michael Nyqvist of course, in the already-recently-released Swedish film: the first of three based on Stieg Larsson's colossal-selling Millennium trilogy of novels. Great film, and many people are questioning the need for an English-language reworking, but Fincher and screenwriter Steve Zaillian are insisting it's a thoroughly different take on the same material, and given the level of talent involved, we're inclined to excitement. Cast your mind back to Christopher Nolan's Insomnia, and give them the benefit of the doubt.
Scott Rudin is producing, and shooting is pencilled in for September. Fincher is apparently keen to cast an unknown in the fundamental role of hacker-savant Lisbeth Salander. We'll keep you posted.
