Avengers: Endgame is still doing strong business at the box office, but now we're learning something about other projects in the MCU, or at least spawned from it. Such as word that Captain America: Civil War's Daniel Brühl and Emily VanCamp – Zemo and Sharon Carter themselves – will be in Falcon And Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.
Quite how they'll factor into the series is anyone's guess at this point; Zemo, for one was left alive at the end of Civil War after framing Stan's Bucky for the death of T'Challa's father and the attack on the Sokovia Accords ceremony in Vienna, and driving a wedge between the Avengers. Sharon (spare us the "Cap's beard" gags) remains part of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre team. As for our favourite bickering heroes, we'll have to wait and see when the show is set to learn whether Sam's anointing as the new Captain America will be a feature.
Deadline reports that Handmaid's Tale veteran Kari Skogland has scored the job of directing all six episodes of the show, with Malcolm Spellman running the writing team.
Stan, meanwhile, has been talking about what his hopes are for Bucky going forward. "I think it’s time for Bucky to go out there and have an identity outside of the circumstances that we’ve met him through,” Stan said at a recent convention. "So, I don’t know, he might do all kinds of things. He might even go on a date. Scary world out there, you know? Apps, things like that. I don’t know what he’s gonna do. I can’t see him on an iPhone... I think it’s gonna be a lot of dealing with Anthony’s character and Anthony himself which is always another character."
According to the actor, the plan is to kick off filming on the series this October in Atlanta, one of Marvel's current filming hubs. Disney+, the streaming service that will carry the show, has yet to announce a launch date.
