Control director Anton Corbijn started setting up a new film called Life back in May, which will chronicle the working relationship – and deep friendship – between Hollywood legend James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock. Corbijn already has Robert Pattinson attached as Stock and he’s just landed Dane DeHaan’s services to play Dean{ =nofollow}.

Luke Davies wrote the script, which tracks the pair’s interaction in 1955 before Dean became an international icon. Stock met Dean at a party and quickly realised he could be something special. Initially defensive and feeling guilty that he spent so much time away from his son, Stock emerged from his shell as he hung out with Dean in Los Angeles, New York and Indiana, chronicling his world for Life Magazine.

“As an internationally celebrated photographer, Anton Corbijn is the perfect filmmaker to direct Life,” producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman told Screen Daily. “Finding the right actor to play James Dean was a big responsibility, but Dane’s body of work has proved what a chameleon he is and what he will contribute to the role.”

DeHaan is much in demand at the moment, with several films either awaiting release or churning through post-production. He’ll next be seen in** Kill Your Darlings** (which released its first trailer yesterday), followed by Metallica: Through The Never and Devil’s Knot. He's also Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, due here on April 18.
