If anyone can broach the subject of A) robotic romance and B) reading subtitles, then it's surely Empire spirit animal Dan Stevens. He stars alongside Maren Eggert in Maria Schrader's romantic comedy drama I'm Your Man.
Inspired by Emma Braslavsky's short story Ich Bin Dein Mensch and adapted by Schrader alongside Jan Schomburg, I'm Your Man stars Eggert as Alma, a scientist at the famous Pergamon Museum in Berlin. In order to obtain research funds for her work, she is persuaded to participate in an extraordinary study. For three weeks, she has to live with a humanoid robot tailored to her character and needs, whose artificial intelligence is designed to be the perfect life partner for her. Alma meets Tom (Stevens), a machine in human form in a class of its own, created solely to make her happy... But that isn't the immediate result.
I'm Your Man has been winning awards at festivals and will be arriving in UK cinemas (and via Curzon Home Cinema) on 13 August.
