Having played the BFI London Film Festival way back in October, 2014, Corinna McFarlane's drama The Silent Storm is finally about to get its proper release. Damian Lewis and Andrea Riseborough are the stars, and heralding its arrival, Sony Pictures UK have released a new trailer.

Not to be confused with the PC war game, the Silent Storm in this case is an emotional one. Set on a remote Scottish island sometime not long after WWII, it involves a love triangle between Lewis, Riseborough and new arrival to the island Ross Anderson.

Most of the island's inhabitants are leaving for the mainland following the closure of the local mine. Protestant minister Balor (Lewis) and his wife Aislin (Riseborough) have elected to stay, however, and when young offender Fionn (Anderson) arrives from Glasgow for some hard labour, he and Aislin are often left alone while Balor's up the kirk. You might predict some of what happens next. You perhaps wouldn't quite be expecting some of the trippier aspects that the trailer only hints at...

The island in the film is never named, but The Silent Storm was filmed on Mull. John Sessions, Kate Dickie and Eric Robertson are elsewhere in the cast, and McFarlane wrote the screenplay as well as directing. The long overdue UK release date is now May 20.
