Dakota Johnson’s looking for love – or lust – in the How To Be Single trailer

She’s more used to finding solace (or something kinkier) with Christian Grey these days, but Dakota Johnson is back in less experimental romantic territory for a new comedy. Johnson and Rebel Wilson star in the first trailer for How To Be Single.

Adapted by Dana Fox, Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein from Liz Tuccillo’s novel, How To Be Single finds Johnson as Alice, who is trying to get over a recent break-up. Though she’d probably rather just go home and be by herself, her best pal Robin (Wilson) encourages her to come on a girls’ night, and to find someone right – or at least someone right now.

What follows is a chaotic example of modern dating mores, arguing that in a world where smartphone apps and online hookups dominate, there’s still room for more traditional ways of finding someone, even in a big city like New York. And if you’d rather just enjoy singledom? There’s advice for that, too. It’s hard to judge from a trailer, which as usual front-loads a lot of the gags (there’s a nice moment where Wilson interrupts Johnson’s voice-over and tells her to stop “having a moment”), but Single looks like it could have some laughs. And there is also tit-punching, which is not something you often see in a rom-com.

How To Be Single also features a solidly comedic supporting cast, with Alison Brie, Anders Holm, Jake Lacy, Damon Wayans Jr. and Nicholas Braun showing up. The film will be out in the UK on February 19 next year.
