There is, apparently, still time for Lars von Trier to round up more actors to take part in Nymphomaniac, which he’s now busy filming. He’s taking some from the veteran pile and some newcomers. So Willem Dafoe, Udo Kier and Jean-Marc Barr will know what they’re in for, but Kate Ashfield, Caroline Goodall, Kate Ashfield, Saskia Reeves and Omar Shargawi are even now getting their first taste of working for von Trier.
Von Trier is shooting Nymphomaniac as two feature length films, planning both soft-core and hard-core versions. Charlotte Gainsbourg stars as Jo, a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac beaten up and left for dead in an alley. She’s found and cared for by an older bachelor (Stellan Skarsgard) and ends up telling him her complicated life story.
Von Trier already has an impressive cast roster to work with, including Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Jamie Bell, Uma Thurman and Connie Nielsen, though one who slipped through the net due to scheduling issues is Nicole Kidman.
Production is under way in Cologne and we can expect this one to make waves next year. Conveniently, Dafoe is currently at work on Anton Corbijn’s drama A Most Wanted Man in Hamburg, so he won’t have to far to go to report for von Trier duty.
