Cusack / De Bont Film Suspended

First of all, DON'T PANIC. 1408 just hit cinemas, Grace is Gone has not yet arrived on these shores and Martian Child, Summerhood and War, Inc. are all in the bag, so your John Cusack fix is safe for some time to come. But it's still a shame to report that his planned actiony movie with Jan De Bont, Stopping Power, has been suspended, perhaps for good.

The film, also set to star the ever-charming Jason Isaacs and the very lovely Melissa George, was about a criminal who steals an RV (that's "recreational vehicle" or, to non-Americans, "mansion on wheels") only to find that there's a little girl inside. Being a resourceful, improvisational sort, said criminal (we're guessing Isaacs) then forces the girl's father (Cusack) to act as a decoy and help his getaway in order to get his daughter back.

But none of that matters now since a financial backer withdrew from the film and the makers, internationalmedia (not a typo, all one word) have been unable to find a replacement and have put the project on indefinite hold. It's a shame for De Bont, as he hasn't directed a film since 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life and could do with getting back in the saddle. On the other hand, since silly giant shark movie Meg is next on his 'To Do' list, this could work out well for all concerned.
