Yet another minor shock for Oscar-territory films: police thriller Freedomland, starring Samuel L Jackson, which was originally scheduled for a a brief January 2006 release in the United States to qualify for the awards, won’t make it to cinemas that month.
According to Revolution Studios, the film, directed by Joe Roth, “played broader than a little movie,” and will now be released in February 2006 in the States. “We’re going to market it like Ransom,” added the studio.
This follows the news that Steven Zaillian’s All The King’s Men, starring Sean Penn, will also not make the qualifying date for Oscar consideration.
