Though Volver continues to win acclaim, Pedro Almodovar is already close to finding his next film.
He’s apparently seriously considering revenge drama La Piel Que Habito, which rougly translates as The Skin I'm In, though the script hasn’t been finished yet.
The casting of the female lead probably isn’t going to be a big shock though, with Penelope Cruz returning to star for the director once again.
Almodovar has actually had Piel in development for ages, taking its plot from the 1995 book Mygale by Thierry Jonquet. The story finds a plastic surgeon exacting a horrible vengeance on the men who raped his daughter, though the film will apparently ditch all but one scene from its source.
According to Almodovar, this one will be “immensely tough and complicated, targeted at select audiences, the kind of film that's discomfiting and doesn't tend to win many awards.” You have been warned.
