Tom Cruise and Nicole apparently learned a thing or two about eccentricity when working for the enigmatic Mr Kubrick – or perhaps the pair’s peculiar ways meant they just clicked with the great director. Last week the world learned just how picky a Hollywood couple can be, as a court case revealed the cost of gossiping about their business if you’re unlucky enough to work for them. Former employee Judita Gomez sued Tom 'n' Nic for unfair dismissal after being fired on 31st July last year, and the document outlining the couples expectations came to light last week during the hearing. Eight pages long, it demands that staff pay a set fine for any misdemeanours involving giving information to the press or being generally indiscreet. Among the document’s demands are statements pertaining to the couple’s status, as well as the list of possible infringements and the corresponding fine. A sample from the document reads; “I [the employee] further acknowledges that Mr Cruise and Ms Kidman (collectively ‘Cruise’) are prominent public persons whose reputations are of particular sensitivity due to their prominence as motion picture actors…” And the cost in full for those slips? $50,000 for “private disclosure or repetition of Confidential Information” $50,000 “for each time the disclosure was mad” $1,000 000 minimum for any information that appears in a given publication and For talking to the press, "$20 for each copy printed, with a minimum of $1,000,000 per publication." For books, the penalty is $250 "for each copy printed with a minimum of $1,000,000 for publication in the U.S., and $500,000 for most major European and Asian countries, with a fine of $250,000 for publication in all other countries. Any info leading to a U.S. network TV broadcast will result in a $5,000,000 per-telecast fine Handing over a "videocassette, disc or other devices" will cost you "$30 for each unit manufactured," with a $1,000,000 minimum But hey, they’re not all bad. The contact does state that that "with respect to the first-time, unintentional disclosure of Confidential Information, only one-half of the sums specified above shall be payable."
