There’s a small part of us that hopes Tom Cruise receives his offers to work on the next Mission: Impossible film via unlikely communication devices that then self-destruct. So we like to imagine there’s a smoking, ruined Speak-And-Spell sitting on his balcony table, having delivered details of** I
Cruise is indeed back for a fifth run/jump/shoot/clamber-around as agent Ethan Hunt, with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions once more joining forces to fund the film.
As of right now, the film is still deep in development, and while Cruise’s long-time friend and collaborator Christopher McQuarrie has been considering the job of writing and directing the new movie, no deals have been made and there’s a chance that McQuarrie will be busy elsewhere.
We’d expect a writing/directing announcement for someone to follow in due course, along with a likely release date which shouldn't be too far away. Paramount will want to get this one moving, particularly in light of Ghost Protocol’s nearly $700 million box office take.
Another big question, of course, is, What Will Tom Climb This Time? Perhaps he’ll be clinging to the side of SpaceX’s latest craft. Suggest your answers below. [[Poll919]]
