Russell Crowe’s not known for showing tenderness, but he’s still signed on to star in a film with that title.

But this Tenderness is a drama that John Polson will direct, focusing on a violent teenager whose life intersects with 16-year-old Lori, a runaway who finds herself charmed by him. Crowe is appearing as police bod Lieutenant Cristofuoro, who sets out to unravel Eric’s complicated past.

Crowe plans to work on the film in May, before leaping on to Ridley Scott’s American Gangster in July and finally finding time for Baz Luhrmann’s Aussie epic early next year.

And this will be the second time that Crowe and the Hide & Seek director have worked together – though the last time they met, it was as co-stars, in 1990’s WWII epic Prisoners Of The Sun.
