Criminal Macabre Headed To Screen

Criminal Macabre,a graphic novel by 30 Days of Night's Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, is headed to the screen from Universal. This marks the bajillionth comic book adaptation of the last few years, but one we're not unhappy to see.

The story's a little like Hellblazer, aka Constantine, in that it involves a private detective, Cal MacDonald, who specialises in the supernatural and in hunting down the monsters that prey on human beings. MacDonald is also a recovering drug addict and hangs out with ghouls, giving this one a harder edge than we're maybe used to in our comic movies.

Niles is on record as saying that he doesn't want his character watered down for the screen, and presumably the mere fact that this deal has been struck means that we can expect an R-rated (anti)hero. Kyle Ward, who's writing the Hitman sequel, is the screenwriter. Keep 'em peeled for more on this as it moves forward.
