He's been busy on the small screen of late, starring in the Amazon series Red Oaks. But Submarine's Craig Roberts is still landing film roles, and has just signed up to join the cast of the new biopic of Lord Of The Rings creator J.R.R. Tolkien.
Nicholas Hoult is on to play John Ronald Reuel Tolkien for a story that will catch up with Tolkien in his younger days, an orphaned author who finds fellowship, love, and artistic inspiration from a group of likeminded friends. But then comes World War I, which threatens to tear them apart. These formative experiences would go on to fuel his work in the fantasy world. Roberts will feature as Sam, one of the young men that Tolkien serves with during the conflict. He joins a cast that also includes Lily Collins, co-starring as Tolkien's wife Edith Bratt, the love of his life and inspiration for some of the characters in Rings.
David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford wrote the script, with Dome Karukski in the director's chair.
Roberts has also recently worked on Bittersweet Symphony, which should be out next year.
