Craig Brewer To Direct Mother Trucker

Nobody can accuse Craig Brewer of lacking diversity in his career. For the director of hard-hitting pimp drama Hustle & Flow has just signed on to write and direct Mother Trucker, a raucous road comedy that will come on like a modern version of… Smokey And The Bandit?!?

The movie is based on an article in Maxim by Steven Russell, about a man who escapes from jail in order to see his dying mother. Oh, and he does so by stealing an 18-wheeler and heading across the South, with PC Plod hot on his heels.

Brewer so far has directed serious dramas – **Black Snake Moan **was his most recent effort – so we’re curious to see how he’s going to handle an action comedy that will doubtless involve car chases aplenty. As long as he gets Three 6 Mafia to do the music, we’ll be happy.

New Regency exec Amy Israel, who worked with Brewer earlier in his career, snapped up the pitch and will overee the project. Otherwise, there’s no news on a timeframe. But we’ll bring you the latest the minute we get it. In the meantime, who would you cast as a modern-day Burt Reynolds and Jackie Gleason, readers? We'll start you off with two names - Ryan Reynolds and Billy Bob Thornton...
