Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints Of Newark has entered the period where casting stories come thick and fast. Just yesterday we brought news that Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga are aboard, and today it's the turn of Corey Stoll and Maniac's Billy Magnussen.

As has become usual with most of the casting so far, their roles are being kept secret, but we do know they'll interact with Alessandro Nivola, who will anchor the film as Richard "Dickie" Moltisanti one of the key architects of the mafia family eventually run by James Gandolfini's Tony Soprano in the HBO series.

Show creator David Chase wrote the script for the film, which has the Newark riots of the 1960s as its backdrop. Alan Taylor, who directed several episodes of the series, is on to shoot the film.

Stoll, last seen in First Man, has a role in Ratched, a new series from Netflix which explores the origin of the cruel nurse in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Magnussen will show up in Velvet Buzzsaw, due in cinemas and on Netflix on 1 February, and is part of the cast for Disney's live-action Aladdin, which flies in on 24 May.
