Like its titular vessel tossed on the stormy waves during its crossing, Last Voyage Of The Demeter has had a turbulent time in development, passing through the hands of different directors including David Slade and Neil Marshall. In its latest version, the film has Corey Hawkins aboard to star, and Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark director Andre Øvredal calling the shots.

Bullet Train's Zak Olkewicz wrote the latest draft of the script, which is based on a single chapter, “The Captain’s Log,” from Bram Stoker’s 1897 classic Dracula. The chapter tells the story of the Russian schooner, Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo – 24 unmarked wooden crates — from Carpathia to London. The film will detail the strange events that befell the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a terrifying presence onboard the ship. When it finally arrived near Whitby Harbor, it was a derelict. There was no trace of the crew...

This one has been sailing on its trip to the screen since 2002, so we're not quite holding our breath for its arrival yet. Still, this is an encouraging sign.
