The true winner won’t be decided until tomorrow’s final figures emerge, but based on the studio estimates, three of this week’s new releases are roughly equal in terms of their earning power.

As the dust settles at the US box office, the top three spots went to Jake Gyllenhaal police drama End Of Watch, Jennifer Lawrence horror thriller House At The End Of The Street and Clint Eastwood’s latest starring gig, baseball drama Trouble With The Curve. Watch and House were directly matched with $13 million each, while Curve took in $12.7 million.

Fourth was the 3D re-release of Finding Nemo, down a couple of places with $9.4 million. **Resident Evil: Retribution **began a quick free-fall from last week’s top spot, landing in fifth with $6.7 million.

But there was even worse news for Dredd, which didn’t seem to grab the attention of US cinemagoers and arrived in sixth place with $6.3 million. That put it just ahead of The Maste****r, which expanded wider and took in $5 million despite only appearing on 788 screens compared to Dredd’s 2,506. Eighth was The Possession, scaring up $2.6 million while Lawless fell to ninth with $2.3 million. Rounding off the top 10 we find ParaNorman, which nabbed $2.2 million.
