Sean Connery will receive a Knighthood today (July 5), for services to film drama. The Scottish star will be knighted in Edinburgh, the city he grew up in. Connery, 69, turned to acting after being in the navy and has appeared in over 70 films. He has long been a candidate for knighthood, but as an outspoken campaigner for the Scottish National Party he was denied the title in the 1997 and 1998 honours lists. Although he says he was not, "greatly surprised" at being missed out previously, he now says he accepts the knighthood, "with pleasure because I consider it as much an honour for Scotland as it is for me."
