Is it a good idea to delve into the past of a character as iconic as John McClane? Regardless of anyone else's opinions, Len Wiseman, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and star Bruce Willis are pushing ahead with the plan, and The Conjuring duo Chad and Carey Hayes have been brought on to re-write the script for the Die Hard prequel.
Looking to toggle back and forth between past and present (with Willis' present-day version of McClane looking back), the movie aims to chronicle what he was getting up to as a cop in 1970s New York, years before he went to that fateful Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza. Wiseman is producing and aims to direct the new film, marking his second time with the Die Hard universe after 2007's Live Free Or Die Hard (released here as Die Hard 4.0).
The Hayes brothers more often write horror movies than any other genre, though they do have a few action projects sprinkled here and there, and have at least one in development. A big question will be whether anyone can make a young John McClane work, and just who would be chosen to play him? Still, if we can have a young Han Solo...
