Robert E. Howard's muscle-bound barbarian Conan has been on screen a few times, most famously in the form of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, even though it has recently dropped untold sums on a Lord Of The Rings adaptation, Amazon wants more fantasy, and is recruiting the creative team to adapt Howard's work for the small screen.

Ryan Condal, who created sci-fi TV series Colony, is teaming up with veteran Game Of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik for the developing series that will, according to Deadline, return the character closer to his literary roots. We still expect to see his enemies driven before him, though.

The story will find Conan driven from his tribal homeland, and set to wandering the mysterious and treacherous world beyond its borders. Despite the numerous previous adaptations and the various limbo-wedged film spin-offs, Amazon clearly thinks this one could match up well with its LOTR plans.
