In a world where every successful movie is eventually rumoured to be getting a sequel – even one from 1988 – Paramount has been considering making a follow-up to Eddie Murphy comedy pic Coming To America for a while now. And who better to work on the script than the original writers, Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield?

Though he has talked about the potential before, Murphy isn't officially aboard yet, but given that he had been reportedly working on early versions of the screenplay, you've got to figure that if he likes the script, he'll give it a shot.

The John Landis-directed original found Murphy as Prince Akeem, who travels from his wealthy African home to New York with faithful sidekick Semmi Arsenio Hall){href='(http://www.empireonline.com/people/arsenio-hall/)' } to avoid an arranged marriage and find a wife he loves for her brains and wit instead of her family connections.

It's very early days for this one, and it may yet disappear back into the rumour void, but there certainly seems to be more forward motion than before.
