Good morning my neighbours! The wait is finally over and our King is set to return: Coming 2 America has set a global release date. The much-anticipated sequel to John Landis' 1988 box office sensation Coming to America will be released on Amazon Prime Video in over 240 countries, in March 2021.
Craig Brewer (Dolemite Is My Name) will be directing, from a screenplay written by Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein and David Sheffield, with story by Blaustein, Sheffield and Justin Kanew, based on characters created by Eddie Murphy. Of course, Murphy will also be back to reprise his role as the newly-crowned King Akeem. Here's a plot synopsis for the new film: "Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began."
Joining Murphy and Hall, James Earl Jones is coming back to play King Jaffe Joffer, alongside Shari Headley's Queen Lisa, John Amos as Cleo McDowell, Louie Anderson as Maurice, and of course, the motley barbershop crew. But a new film means a new crop of characters, too – cast members to look forward to will includeWesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha and Teyana Taylor.
Coming 2 America will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 5 March, 2021. It might seem like a while to wait, but let's remember: no journey is too great when one finds what he seeks.
