Comic-Con 2017: Preacher Introduces A Starr

Preacher S2 Ep3

Preacher might not have dragons or zombies, but it did have a few tricks up its sleeve for the Hall H presentation, as the show kicked off its panel with a New Orleans band, which seems fitting given the setting of the current season. Among the treats was a trailer for some of the madness set to happen in the coming weeks. As with all things Preacher, be aware of... er... grown up content.

Taking the stage were co-creator Seth Rogen (who jokingly teased that he would be taking over the lead from Dominic Cooper, and that the show will be re-titled "Rabbi") plus cast members Cooper, Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun, Graham McTavish and Ian Colletti.

There was a lot of fun to be had, with the cast bantering and talking about their characters, plus fielding questions from the audience ("How are you guys feeling?" asked one, by way of opening. "Hungover, thanks for asking," replied Gilgun in not-exactly-shocking predictable fashion.)

And the big reveal was one Herr Starr, played by actor Pip Torrens. A clip showed his recruitment by the mysterious, quasi-religious organisation known as The Grail, who will be popping up a lot more this season. A montage of physical tests let Starr show off his particular set of skills (including a creative and somewhat disturbing way to get out of a sleeper hold that we won't go into detail on here, and his willingness to kill). It was hilarious and gruesome all at once. So... Preacher.

The show is on Mondays on AMC in the States and new episodes then drop weekly on Amazon Prime in the UK on Tuesdays.
