Warner Bros are planning a film based on the rescue of 15 hostages from the Columbian jungle earlier this year, and pitching the result as an action thriller. The as-yet untitled film will go up against the already-in-development Operation Checkmate, which Simon Brand is directing.

For those of you who tend to ignore real news in favour of movie news (well done!), the story's based on the dramatic rescue earlier this summer of 15 hostages from Columbia's FARC terrorist group. Columbian government agents and soldiers, some of whom spent months undercover and took acting lessons in order to convince the real guerrillas that the hostages were merely being transferred to headquarters. Hey terrorists! Terrorise that!

Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Scott Z. Burns are producing the film, from a script by Peter Landesman, who previously wrote both article and screenplay for Trade, about sex slaves in New York. There's no director or cast as yet, but we'll bring you more news as it emerges.
