Colin Firth Could Be Untouchable

Assuming everything works out in the negotiation process, it appears that people at the top of their game in the worlds of comedy and drama could slam together for a remake of a French film. Not literally, of course; that could lead to injuries. But according to Variety, Colin Firth and Bridesmaids director Paul Feig are now both in talks for Untouchable. This is not to be confused with Brian de Palma's Capone / Ness classic.

The Weinstein Company is cooking the whole thing up after buying the rights to Eric Toledano and Oliver Nakache’s Gallic hit The Intouchables. As well as making a deal to remix it for international audiences, the company is also planning to unleash the original upon America on May 25.

Though no writer has been assigned to pump out a translated script yet, Untouchable will follow the same basic plot as the original, itself based on a true story. The blend of comedy and drama finds a wealthy white aristocrat suffering a terrible paragliding accident that leaves him a quadriplegic. He tries to find the right caretaker until he bonds with a young immigrant and the mismatched duo discover that they complement each other more than anyone expected. All being well, the Weinstein team want to have this one shooting in the autumn.

Both Feig and Firth are in demand, of course, with the director attached to several film and TV projects and Firth scheduled to make **Devil’s Knot **and The Railwayman this year. It doesn't sound like either will be bringing a knife to a gunfight any time soon.
