Most of the news surrounding Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman this week has been about the casting of the movie’s dwarf contingent, with the likes of Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins and Ray Winstone among those either on board or in talks. Now come word that the film has locked in two more main roles, with Lily Cole and Sam Spruell signing on.
The film, as you’ll likely know if you’ve seen any of this week’s stories, finds Snow White (Kristen Stewart) sentenced to death by her wicked stepmother (Charlize Theron). While a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) is dispatched to do the deed, he ends up helping Snow and training her to fight. She gets help from the dwarves to take down the nasty queen.
Cole, who made an impact in The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, is playing a character named Greta, while The Hurt Locker/Defiance’s Spruell is Finn, the Queen’s henchman who is sent to kill Snow and her new mentor.
Rupert Sanders is directing the pic, with shooting set to start later this year for a June 1, 2012 release.
