Following the extended holiday last weekend, it felt as though the US box office was still slumbering, heavy with Thanksgiving leftovers and little energy for much that was new. No new wide releases emerged, so Pixar's Coco ruled the roost once again, leading a top 10 that was almost unchanged with $26.1 million, according to studio estimates.
Managing to stay up despite missing expectations, Justice League saw in its third weekend in second place with $16.5 million, bringing its Stateside total to $197.3 million. Wonder, a considerable success so far, retained third position, adding $12.5 million and climbing closer to $100 million.
At fourth, Thor: Ragnarok earned $9.6 million, pushing its own US total to date closer to $300 million. And at the back of the top five pack we have Daddy's Home 2, which took in $7.5 million.
Murder On The Orient Express repeated in sixth with $6.7 million, while the first change in the chart comes as Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird widened its release and surged into the top 10 at seventh on $4.54 million. Nipping at its heels was Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, itself opening on more screens and adding $4.53 million for eighth place. Nativi-toon The Star fell to ninth on $4 million, while A Bad Moms Christmas dropped to 10th and $3.4 million.
Outside the top 10, smaller-scale releases did well, with The Disaster Artist launching on 19 screens and landing 12th with $1.2 million, while Guillermo del Toro's The Shape Of Water kicked off its run across two screens and made $166,800 for 19th place – we'd expect it to jump up the charts as it widens its platform.
