Clint Eastwood, everyone's favourite bounty hunter / maverick cop / grumpy old man / photographer of bridges, has knocked Denzel Washington from his three-year perch as America's favourite star, this year's Harris Poll reveals. If Gran Torino really is his final in-front-of-the-camera gig, it's proved to be not a bad one to bow out with.
The online survey, first undertaken in 1994, took place in the first half of December. Denzel is now at number three, with Johnny Depp, favourite among 18-32 year olds, soaring up the list to second place (he was eighth last year). Will Smith, Harrison Ford and Angelina Jolie have all dropped out of the equation.
With The Proposal and The Blind Side, it was a top year for Sandra Bullock, who's the highest rated of the three women on the list, above Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Apparently it's Generation X (33-44 year olds) that particularly plump for Sandra.
But it's not all about box office visibility: Marion Morrison, aka John Wayne is at number 7, pilgrims. Those yankee folks still love a cowboy.
