With the cameras set to roll next month, John Hillcoat hasn’t quite finished putting together the promising cast for his new crime thriller Triple Nine. Clifton Collins Jr. is just the latest name to join the roster.

With a script by Matt Cook, Triple Nine – taken from US police code for an officer needing assistance rather than the UK emergency number – finds a crew of dirty cops in even deeper hot water than usual when the Russian mob blackmails them into pulling off a tricky heist in Los Angeles. To distract the authorities’ attention from their crime, the officers hatch a deadly plan aimed at a young colleague. He manages to foil their attack, and goes on the offensive against the whole operation.

Casey Affleck will play the targeted officer, while Michael B. Jordan is set as a streetwise fellow cop who conspires with Chiwetel Ejiofor’s master thief to double-cross Affleck’s character. Woody Harrelson, Teresa Palmer, Norman Reedus, Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Kate Winslet and Aaron Paul have all either signed on or been connected to the thriller.

Collins Jr. was last seen in Transcendence and will crop up in indie pics Hacker and Stung. He’s also part of Terrence Malick’s untitled 2015 film.
