Although no-one thinks that trying to follow-up David Fincher’s masterful Fight Club in cinematic terms is a good idea, there’s now the intriguing prospect of the original novel’s author, Chuck Palahniuk, cranking out a sequel in graphic novel form.

Appearing at Comic-Con on Thursday to attend a panel on his work and sign copies of his latest novel, Doomed, Palahniuk made the announcement about the book. He cautioned that it’s still early days, but also provided a rough sketch of the story he’s working on.

“Chelsea Cain has been introducing me to artists and creators from Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, and they're walking me through the process. It will likely be a series of books that update the story ten years after the seeming end of Tyler Durden," he told his official site.

“Nowadays, Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a comeback. Jack is oblivious. Marla is bored. Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom. It's only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem.

“
It will, of course, be dark and messy. Due to contract obligations it can't come to light for a while. But since the Fight Club sequel will appear serialised in graphic form, my book publisher might allow me to launch it earlier than 2015.”

It’s certainly tempting to think of the man who created both The Narrator and Tyler Durden offering a peek into their future. Our only concern is a studio deciding it should be made into a movie like everything else. Keep those rights locked down, Chuck!
